- Determinatie: Uwe (2010-08-25) =Guzmania desautelsii
- Some years ago I've seen that species in Panama. Very nice plants. (Verzonden: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
- Determinatie: Eric Gouda (2014-07-29) =Guzmania nicaraguensis
- Opmerking: Eric Gouda (2014-07-29) - The two other images (pink bracts) has been separated, is a different species, this one is probably Guzmania nicaraguensis, but I never saw them with leaves red at lower side (Verzonden: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Opmerking (5818): Richard Martin (2014-07-29) - Eric, Guzmania nicaraguensis I have grown from seed from the seed bank. Leaves are green both side, flower is about the same, held low, shy to open. , orange yellow bract, I still have several growing.
- Opmerking (5818): Eric Gouda (2014-07-30) - The flowers of G.nicaraguensis are normally yellow, but often pale yellow and I thought the photos are overexposed.
The plant looks like a Guzmania desautelsii but that has a much broader spike with many more smaller flowers and pink or reddish floral bracts. That is why I still think it is closer to G. nicaraguaensis, but maybe I'm wrong. (Verzonden: brom-l@science.uu.nl) - Opmerking (5818): Richard Martin (2014-07-30) - I can see the problem. Guzmania desautelsii is pictured as flowering red or pink they both seem to have green undersides, my nicaraguensis have MUCH thinner pale lettuce green pointed leaves so this may possibly be, as you suggest desautelsii or a nat hybrid thereof? with red undersides .
