plant saxicolous, before flowering 0.4–0.7 m high, flowering 1.6–2.5 m high, clustering, propagating by imbricate, 4–6 cm thick, pale-cream, ramified lateral, up to 1.6 m long stolons. leaves many, forming a dense rosette, ca 90 cm in diameter; sheath ca 4.6 cm long, at the blade connection 5.5–6.8 cm wide, forming a one side open tube, approximately 70–90% amplexicaul, both sides bright, inner side bright cream, in the mid height a ca 1.5 cm large transversal bright chestnut strip, towards the blade lepidote with appressed fine whitish scales, margins finely serrate; blade triangular-lanceolate-caudate, arcuate or twisted, concave, ca 48 cm long, at the base ca 7.8 cm wide, very rigid, pale-green, adaxially lepidote with appressed white-cinereous scales, nerved, abaxially densely lepidote with appressed fine white-cinereous scales, nerved, margins laxly dentose, the teeth ca 1.1–2.6 cm apart, 0.2–0.8 cm long, 0.4 cm wide, at the base fleshy, triangular-lanceolate, lepidote with appressed white-cinereous scales, nerved, very rigid, pungent, curved retrorse or antrorse, often even latrorse, glabrous, bright brown, red, curved, claw-like tip. inflorescence: peduncle 57–108 cm long, at the base ca 1.6 cm in diameter, at the base of generative part of the inflorescence 0.6–1.3 cm in diameter, erect, stout, woody, slightly furrowed longitudinally, glabrous, brown/brown-greenish; peduncle bracts triangular-lanceolate attenuatecaudate, foliaceous, strongly nerved, margins dentose, the bigger lower ones ca 29 cm long, exceeding the internodes, hemiamplexicaul, the upper ones shorter, 3.5–4.8 cm long, lepidote covered by appressed whitishcinereous scales, at the base a fleshy saliency; fertile part ca 140 cm long, flowering part ca 21 cm in diameter, erect, simple or rarely compound, laxly ca 150 flowered, well-developed; rachis greenish-brown to honey colored, longitudinally sulcate; floral bracts at the pedicel bases, triangular-lanceolate, in the lower part of the flowering part of inflorescence ca 2.8 cm long, towards the inflorescence apex minute, fleshy, less than 1 mm long, green, in age straw-like. flowers nocturnal, 4.6–5.2 cm long, laxly arranged, spreading; pedicel 3.8–4.8 cm long, straight or slightly curved upwards, rigid, at the flower base approximately 2.3 mm thick, towards the base narrowing to ca 1.3 mm thickness, brilliant yellow to brown-honey colored, glabrous; sepals connate, fleshy, ovate-triangular, apex acute to obtuse, ca 1 cm long, at base 7 mm wide, concave, yellow with a slight greenish tone, with disperse, with ferruginous-vinaceous spots, bright, glabrous; petals free, long-elliptic, obtuse apex, in anthesis distinct recurved, concave, ca 3.7 cm long, in the mid height ca 0.8 cm wide, fleshy, pale yellow-greenish, principally at dorsal region maculate by minute elongated ferruginous- vinaceous spots, glabrous. stamens exserted, whitish, free, 2.8 cm long, at base flattened ca 2 mm wide, narrowing distally; anther green (densely covered by yellow pollen), straight linear, ca 9.0 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, exserted. pistil: ovary brilliant green with disperse, ferruginous-vinaceous spots, ca 2.4 cm long, at the base 5.5 mm wide; ovules parietal, white; style green, upper part light yellowish-green, ca 3.5 cm long; stigma lobes exserted, green, very fleshy, amorphous, strongly fringed-papillose. fruits dehiscent, ellipsoid, apex acuminate, when opened ca 2.4 cm long, 1.6 cm wide, persistent dry petals and sepals, brilliant, dark-castaneous in color; seeds ca 5 mm long and 3 mm wide, flat, endosperm dark-castaneous, ca 3 mm long and ca 1.4 mm wide, surrounded by a cream-castaneous papery like wing.
