- Opmerking (2009): Eric J. Gouda (2008-11-04) - Certainly not P.crassa and I'm not sure it is close. The leaves of P.crassa are unkonwn, this one is spineless. Probably a new species from Bolivia.
- Opmerking (2009): Harry E. Luther (2008-11-06) - Seems to be new but related to Pitcairnia longissimiflora from Dept. Santa Cruz. P. crassa is bigger and crasser. HEL
- Opmerking (2009): Eric J. Gouda (2008-11-06) - Thanks Harry, for bringing this description to my attention.
After studying the description, I'm convinced that it is Pitcairnia longissimiflora. There are a few errors in the description and that is probably why it was misplaced (binomials) as a relative of P.unilateralis. I don't think it is close to this species. For example from the drawing J.Brom.Soc.49(3): 126-9 you can see that the sepals are much less then 4 cm (I see no variation in this length) and that the ovary is more than 1/2 superior. Probably it is closer to P.crassa which is poorly known as far as I know!
