Cottendorfia neogranatensis is a synonym of:

Type: Found among some Orchidaceous plants imported from Rio, in December, 1841, by Lieut. Christopher Smith, of H.M. Packet "Star", and presented to Sir Charles Lemon, Bart. M.P. [Holotype: CGE (phot.)].

Distribution: MEXICO; GUATEMALA; EL SALVADOR;

Habitat: Terrestrial or rarely epiphytic, moist or dry forest,, 330-1200 m. Elev.

Etymology: The epithet refers to the species' small flowers: mikros = small; anthos = flower.
