Distribution: MEXICO; Durango, Zacatecas, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacan, Jalisco, Mexico, Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz.
Habitat: Usually in warm, dry zones, there are however also isolated occurrences in moister forest areas in high locations., (150-)1500-2050 m. Elev.
Etymology: The name refers to the dark-green colour of the petals, (atro = black, dark; viridis = green). Tillandsia atroviridipetala
