Distribution: COLOMBIA; Caqueta,

Habitat: grows on the cracks in the sandstone plain, about 130-150 m. Elev.

Etymology: The name of the species makes reference to the absence of bracts on the scape. This occurrence is not frequent inside the family Bromeliaceae, but seems present in several species belonging to the genus Navia, according to that observed in the bromeliads of the Serrania of Chiribiquete.

Phenology: The flowering and fruiting time of the species seem to be between the months of November and December, keeping in mind that the flora of the mesa of Araracuara has been intensely mistreated (J. F. Duivenvoorden & A. M. Cleef, 1994; Arbelaez, in prep.). This time coincides with the decrease of the rains in the region and the periods of more droughts, high temperatures, increased wind speed and solar radiation (Duivenvoorden & Lips 1993), an environmental condition that favours the opening of fruits and the dispersion of seeds.
