Habitat: along the coast line, in humid grasslands ("capoeiroes"),, ca. 100 m. Elev.

Etymology: named after Harry E. Luther, director of the M. B. Foster Bromeliad Identification Center at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. whose contribution to the knowledge and horticulture of the Bromeliaceae has been outstanding.
