- N. brownii is another typically long-petaled high-montane species. It grows as an epiphyte in the well-preserved Atlantic forest of the park and is also found on rocks in the interior of the cloud forests near the edge of the high-altitude grasslands. The bromeliad flora of the Serra do Brigadeiro is comprised of elements endemic to this area plus typical species of Rio de Janeiro, such as Nidularium antoineanum and Vriesea arachnoidea, and of Espirito Santo, such a Billbergia lymanii and Vriesea carinata var.flavominiata.
Only one clone of this species, a descendent of the type specimen, is found in cultivation. Data on the flowering period are very unreliable.
