DISCUSSION
As mentioned above, A. werdermannii is closely related to A, eurycorymbus, both growing in the same region in the Serra Negra Biological Reserve. The subtle differences observed between the two species are related to the shorter floral bracts, proportionately wider, and with a more pronounced caudate apex in A. werdermannii, plus the flowers proportionately longer, sepals wider, petals with subrounded to acute slender- apiculate apex, and pollen with the exine more broadly reticulate and muri not thickened (see discussion of previous species)
Large epiphytic and saxicolous populations of A. werdermannii were found at the type locality, especially in the forest sector facing the humid southeast trade winds. Flowering is from December to January and the flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds. Like the previous taxon, A. werdermannii is also "critically endangered" and is on the red list of threatened Brazilian plant species. p. Frag Atl NE Brazil
