Abstract:—Two new Puya species from southern Bolivia (Department of Tarija) are described. They belong to the group with lax compound inflorescences that might represent a mono phyletic taxon with a certain radiation in the valleys of the southern Bolivian Andes. Puya lokischmidtiae R. Väsquez & PL. Ibisch sp. nov. is similar to P. trolli (Department of Potosi, at higher altitudes and, possibly. more arid habitats) but differs by several characters, such as black and longer spines of the leaf blades (5 mm vs. 2 mm and brown). the attenuate-lanceolate primary bracts (vs. broadly ovate), nutant flowers (vs. spreading), triangular and longer sepals (20 mm vs. 15 mm and elliptic-oblong), and longer petals (up to 35 mm long vs. 30 mm). lt differs from P. entre-riosensis, due to being larger, having broader leaf blaUes (3 cm vs. 1 cm), longer and black spines (5 mm vs. 1 mm and red brown). a thicker scape (20 mm vs. 6—7 mm), a longer inflorescence (1,50 m vs. 50 cm). nutant flowers (vs. spreading), longer primary bracts. the form of the floral bracts (lanceolate vs. ovate), larger sepals (20 x 8 mm vs. 10 x 2 mm) and longer petals (35 mm vs. 15 mm). It differs, as well, from other species of the group, such as P micrantha or P hofstenii. Puya erlenbachiana P. L. Ibisch & R. Väsquez sp. nov. differs from P entre-riosensis by the much narrower leaf blades that arc only very laxly spined, the entire primary bracts (vs. serrulate), the nutant and shorter flowers (20 mm vs. 30 mm and spreading), and shorter sepals and petals. The new species is smaller than P. hofstenii and has narrower leaves, shorter primary bracts and differently formed floral bracts (broad lanceolate vs. elliptic ovate), much shorter pedicels (3—5 mm vs. 15—13 mm). shorter sepals (11—12 vs. 26 mm) and petals (13 vs. 40 mm). It differs as well from P micrantha.
