plant forming more or less dense cushions, less than 12 cm high. leaves densely imbricate; sheath ovate, 15 x 10–12 mm; blade triangular, to ca 6 x 10 mm, erect, carnose-stiff, protruding horizontally, "abromeitiella"-like, with antrorse maroon spines, beneath densely white lepidote, glabrescent above. inflorescence very short, once-branched; floral bracts triangular, attenuate, 10 x 3 mm, shorter than the sepals. flowers to ca 33 mm long, subsessile; sepals lanceolate, obtuse, to ca 10 mm long, yellowish green, white lepidote; petals ligulate, obtuse, to ca 23 mm long, lemon-yellow (with a green apex), bearing 2 appendages ca 1 mm long, lacerate at base.
