plant ca 40 cm high, short (ca; 7 cm) and curved stemmed, roots fibrous, long. leaves dimorphic, the outer vaginiformous, linear to elliptic, (4-)7(–10) cm long, subentire, the middle large and forming the main foliage, 33–38 cm long, 2.4–3.2 cm wide near the apex, narrowed into a distinct petiole, the inner linear, similar to the outer; sheath short, ca 2 cm long, to ca 1.5 cm wide, brown lepidote, entire except at the transition into the petiole; petioles 8–13 cm long, 4–6 mm wide; canaliculate, laxly serrate with castaneous antrorse spines ca 0.7 mm long, tapering into the blades; blade linear-cuneate, rather abruptly narrowed into a fine ca 1 cm long cuspidate apex, laxly and finely serrate throughout, densely white lepidote on both surfaces but soon glabrous especially adaxially. inflorescence sessile, unbranched, nesting in the center of the rosette. flowers ca 5 in number, spirally arranged, subsessile, surpassed by the innermost leaves; floral bracts elliptic, 35–37 mm long, ca 14 mm wide, short cuspidate, chartaceous, entire, slightly lepidote outside towards the apex, shorter than the sepals; sepals all equal, free, ca 37 mm long, linear, 4.5-s mm wide at middle, subacute, glabrous or with few scales near the apex, thickened along the middle but not carinate; petals lingulate, known only from the remaining lower portions but supposed to be at least 5 cm long, with a two-winged basal scale inside ca l0 mm long. stamens and pistils known only fragmentary. pistil: ovary inferior for three quarters, short and stout obconical and merging into a pedicel-like base; placentation obviously mainly apical; ovules round and flat, without wing structures.
