<- Pepinia leopoldii W.Till & S.Till[as Pepinia leopoldii ]

Observations: —This new species from the Amazon region of Venezuela is distinguished by its nested inflorescence and ovules that are very similar to those pitcairnioids of the genus Navia. However, the presence of petaloid appendages as well as other morphological characteristics clearly show that this species belongs either to Pepinia or Pitcairnia, depending on whether one accepts (the former) or not (the latter) the concepts presented by Varadarajan (1986).
