plant stoloniferous.stolons 8 mm diameter. leaves ca 15 cm long in a funnel form rosette, covered with appressed cinereous scales but soon glabrous; sheath longer than the blades, elliptic, ample, entire except the apex; blade suberect, triangular, attenuate, pungent, 30 mm wide, flat, repand-serrate with broad flat spines, 4 mm long; inflorescence, depauperately compound, rather few-flowered; primary bracts elliptic, pungent apiculate, 45 mm long, slightly exceeding the sepals at anthesis submembranaceous, sparsely brown lepidote, obscurely serrulate toward the apex; floral bracts oblong, pungent apiculate, 32 mm long, about equaling the sepals, thin, lepidote. flowers: sepals asymmetric, apiculate, 18 mm long, connate for 5 mm, glabrous or nearly so; petals white (!wurdack). pistil: ovary cylindric, merging with the obscure 2 mm long pedicel.
