- Add Note: Jeroen van der Steen (2011-10-14) - Maybe Tillandsia barbeana??? I found the same kind of plants in Banos Ecuador
- Add Note: Derek Butcher (2019-04-12) - I have found this plant several times in Ecaudor. I suspect the elevation is around 1500 to 1600 meters. Probably growing epiphytically in trees in groups. This specimen looks dehydrated. It blooms a bright orange, and is Tillandsia confinis. When grown in nearly full sun on trees in the pastures, it takes on this mottled appearance on the leaves. Not sure if I am allowed to add a photo here or not. I'll post my own photos on the website and tell you where they are located.
By the way, Tillandsia barbeana is very different from this plant. Tillandsia naundorfii is closer to this in appearance foliage wise, but has wider leaves with leaf tips that are not quite as pointed. They often grown near the same elevation, but not in the same areas; except one place on the lower portion of the old road from Loja to Zamora where they can be found growing next to each other in the trees. - See my previous note that was assigned somehow to Gerry Stansfield, even though it is my note (Jerry Raack). (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
