15375 - Bromeliads (Garden) - 2018-08-01 (Dimension: 1236 x 2050 pixels - Counter: 9085) Tillandsia penduliscapa? Locality: Ecuador - Unknown - Obtained from Gilberto Merino of Cuenca in 2016 Photographer: Jerry Raack Note: Plant 30 cm wide x 20 cm high (leaves), pendulous inflorescence once-branched hanging 40 cm. Central hanging spike is 20 cm long, one branch is 9 cm long 2.2 cm wide. 4 flowers on branch, 10 flowers on central spike. Leaves 20 cm long; sheath nearly round when flattened, spoon shaped, 6 cm long, 4 cm wide, top brown lepidote, bottom brown heavily lepidote. Blades narrowly triangular, lightly lepidote above, heavily lepidote beneath. Sepals 3 cm long, much shorter than the 6 cm x 1.8 cm floral bracts. Petals 5.5 cm long, a very beautiful green color flaring widely open. Both pistil and stamens exceeding the flower. Yellow pollen, green anther and pistil. I noted in the description of T. penduliscapa in the bromeliad encyclopedia that it is supposed to always have a simple inflorescence, yet my specimen which has bloomed twice for me has always been once branched. Is this possible if it is Tillandsia penduliscapa, or is this some other species? (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl) Identification: pending (Click on the picture to enlarge)
