Aechmea longicupsis
Locality: Peru - Madre de Dios - Tambopata Nature Reserve
Photographer: Steven Heathcote
Note: 2 extra scans of hotos of this species taken on the Tambopata too. I wonder how longicuspus differs from setigera? The plant was over 1m growing (planted) in the river mud at the Explorer Inn (from memory).
Identification: asked

- Add Note (5392): Peter Tristram (2010-01-22) - Hi Steven, I added 2 more images from the same area, with closer detail - not sure if anyone's seen them. Maybe someone can comment regarding longicuspis and setigera. Peter (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
- Add Note (5411): Steven Heathcote (2010-01-22) - Peter, it seems A setigera has a pendulous inflorescence (illustrated in the Flora Neotropica and on the TROPICOS website) whereas A longicuspis infl is erect. Other differences listed in the FN are scape bracts (setigera = bright red, longicuspis = rose) and the plant size (setigera = 1 to 3m, longicuspis = 0.6m). Based on this I think the plant is more likely to be A longicuspis.
