Distribution: Colombia: Guaviare

Habitat: on rocky outcrops in tropical moist fores, 120-200 m. Elev.

Etymology: Aechmea cardenasii is named after the Colombian botanist Dairon Cárdenas, who collected the type specimens. Mr. Cárdenas is the director of the Amazonian herbarium of Colombia (COAH). His research has allowed him to explore vast and unknown parts of the Colombian Amazon and made him the most prolific collector of plants in this natural region of the country.
