Habitat: epiphytic and rupicolous in open vegetation of campo rupestre, 1800-1900 m. Elev.
Etymology: The specific epithet is from latin gelatinosus (having texture and appearance of jelly); a reference to the substance covering the inflorescence.
Phenology: This species has been collected with flowers in September and November, and fruit in April and November.
