Distribution: Mexico: Michoacan

Habitat: Grows on ridges and slopes of igneous rocks, boulders, in tropical deciduous and/or sub-deciduous forests, forming extensive caespitose colonies, 900-1000 m. Elev.

Etymology: This species is dedicated to the members of the ethnic group purhepecha, inhabitants of the area from which the new species comes.

Phenology: Flowers and bears fruit from April to June

Hechtia purhepecha
