Type: BOLIVIA. Dept. Chuquisaca: Prov. Belisario Boeto, 30 km after crossing the Río Grande on the road from Vallegrande to Villa Serrano, 18 km before Siberia al Nuevo Mundo, 18°54'03'' S, 64°17'49'' W, 1200 m, 21 October 2001, Vargas 6285 (holotype: WU (5 sheets), isotypes: LPB, MO).

Distribution: BOLIVIA: Dept. Chuquisaca. 18°30'–19°00'S; 64°15'–64°30' W.

Habitat: Montane dry forests. Terrestrial, on slopes in dry forests of Intern-Andean valleys., 900–1400 m. Elev.

Etymology: The epithet refers to the conspicuous flower stalk. (Latin pedicellatus = stalked).

Phenology: Flowers reported in October and November. Pollinated probably by hummingbirds and insects as it is the case for the other subspecies of D. meziana.
