Currently recognized in the subfam. Bromelioideae. “Nomen in honorem reg. alt. Principis de Würtemburg, qui nomine Hohenberg amabilem scientiam altissimo cult excoluit.” [Name given in honor of his Royal Highness, the Prince of Würtemburg [a former Kingdom, now part of Baden-Württemberg, Germany], whose gave the glorious name of Hohenberg to this lovely science.]
