Pitcairnia violascens var. bogneri is a synonym of:

Distribution: ECUADOR; Chimborazo,

Habitat: Terrestrial and saxicolous in low montane rainforests, 2000-2800 m. Elev.

Etymology: Among the populations with white flowers it is possible to find plants with violet flowers; in 1959 a plant with violet flowers was described as P. violascens. It will become a synonym of the new variety P. aequatorialis var. bogneri described by Rauh in 1988 with clear violet flowers. Reviewing both populations, we have found the only different characteristic is the color of the sepals and petals; thus, we consider them a variety of P. aequatorialis. Populations are only found in the provinces of Chimborazo, Canar and Azuay.
