Type: Guerrero, General Heliodoro Castillo, 1.5 km NW of Puerto del Gallo, sobre el camino a Atoyac, 17°29'00" N, 100°11'14" W 2550 m, bosque de pino encino, hierba perenne rupicola, flores rojas, 13.III.2007, Y. Ramirez-Amezcua, V. W. Steinmann y J. M. Porter 969 (Holotipo: UAMIZ; isotipos: ARIZ, IEB, MEXU).

Habitat: 2550 m. Elev.

Etymology: The species epithet refers to Yocupitzia Ramírez Amezcua, co-worker of the Regional Center of Bajio del Instituto de Ecologia who collected plants of this remarkable species for the first time.
