Distribution: BRAZIL; Rio de Janeiro, (near Petrópolis, Serra dos Órgãos)
Habitat: Known from two granite outcrops, 1000-1300 m. Elev.
Etymology: The specific epithet honors botanist Dr. Gustavo Martinelli of the Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (RB), a Bromeliaceae specialist and pioneer in the study of Brazilian inselbergs and high-altitude grassland floras.
Phenology: Flowering individuals were collected in November; in fruit during August (immature) and September.
