Habitat: understory species in the Atlantic forest fragments

Etymology: The new species was named in honor of botanist Marlene Carvalho de Alencar Barbosa, curator of the Geraldo Mariz Herbarium (UFP), Pernambuco Federal University, for her outstanding contribution to our knowledge of the flora of Northeast Brazil, especially for her valuable support and incentive in the study of Bromeliaceae from Pernambuco.
