Distribution: BRAZIL; Goias,

Habitat: on outcrops of reddish, strongly fragmented sedimentary rocks, growing in a arid regime in full sunshine., 930 m. Elev.

Etymology: It is our pleasure to commemorate Dr Rich¬ard Esteves Pereira, one of Eddie and Linda's five sons, in the name of this interesting plant. Richard has accompanied us on many trips to some of the wildest regions of central Brazil, and in 1986 he joined us on a trip to the habi¬tat of (then-unnamed) Dyckia richardii, which Eddie had discovered a few years prior. Rich¬ard and Eddie were to return to this place again in 1987, 1997, and 2003, the three of us visited it together in 2007, and in July 2008 the plants were studied once more in their natural envi¬ronment.
