Distribution: BOLIVIA; Santa Cruz,

Habitat: on rocks, 1380 m. Elev.

Etymology: This new species is dedicated to our dear colleague Dr. Elvira Gross on her 50th . Birthday, that she will shortly attain in a few months. She has done much in the Taxonomy of the Bolivian Bromeliads. We thank her for the year-long cooperation and hope for another long-term continuation of our association. Without the spurring help of Elvira over the last 13 years, our activities would have proceeded differently in the investigations of the bromeliads of Bolivia. Elvira has been energetic in the exploration of the bromeliads of the Andean valley of Santa Cruz. Our first contact occurred with the description of a Puya (P. prosanae). Because of this, we decided to honour her with a Puya species from Santa Cruz.
