(subgen. Capixabanthus)Publ: J. Bromeliad Soc. 54(2): 72 (2004)
Distribution: BRAZIL; Espirito Santo,
Habitat: grows on the drier slopes covered by a deciduous forest, in slightly inclined rock outcrops inside the forest and in nearby open areas fully exposed to sun light, forming large and very dense terrestrial or saxicolous clumps, ca. 300 , m. Elev.
Etymology: The new species is a tribute to one of its collector, Marcos Zanoni, from the city of Vitoria, Espirito Santo. Dr. Zanoni is a very enthusiastic collaborator in field activities in Espirito Santo and is helping extensively in the current Orthophytum project. He took us to the site where this new taxon was found because he recognized it in a previous collection as something related to O. vagans.
