Type Nidularium ambiguum Wanderley & Leme, Bradea 5: 168. 1989. Edmundoa ambigua (Wanderley & Leme) Leme, Canistrum Bromel. Mata Atl.: 42. Aug 1997. Currently recognized in the subfam. Bromelioideae. Named in honor of Brazilian botanist Edmundo Pereira (1914-1986). Pereira spent the majority of his career at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. In the last ten years of his life he worked at the Herbarium Bradeanum devoted to the study of the Bromeliaceae, publishing numerous papers in the journal ‘Bradea’.
