Etymology: The name of this species pays tribute to North American bromeliad grower Kris Green, who together with her husband, Karl Green, has actively promoted the Bromeliaceae in her country, especially through the Eromeliad Society of South Florida, Miami, USA.

Phenology: It flowers mainly in December
