Etymology: This species is named in honor of Dr. Paulo de Tarso Alvim, Scientific Director of CEPLAC, Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau, Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil, in appreciation of his high regard for and encouragement of botanical research in Brazil. His gracious assistance to Drs. Read and Daniels during their visit to Bahia in February 1975 is sincerely appreciated.
