Etymology: Canistrum sandrae was named after its collector, the bromeliad lover and collector Sandra Linhares, from Salvador, Bahia, who is responsible for the recent introduction of many rare and new bromeliad species to horticulture.
Phenology: Canistnlm sandrae apparently flowers at the same time as C. lanigerum, that is, from March to July. Today there are only four distinct clones in cultivation, all originating from the same type population.
