Habitat: ca 800 m. Elev.

Etymology: The name of this taxon was chosen to reflect its considerable similarity in overall appearance to species of the genus Guzmania, especially the sympatric G. lingulata.

Phenology: Canistrum guzmanioides probably flowers in the wild between June and October.
