Distribution: PERU. Dept. Amazonas, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad. BOLIVIA. Dept. Tarija. ARGENTINA. Prov. Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, La Rioja, San Juan, Córdoba, San Luis, Mendoza
Habitat: Terrestrial, on dry, rocky slopes, open shrub vegetation on sandstone as well as on granite, also on saline soil., 250–1500 m. Elev.
Etymology: The epithet refers to the long petals.
Phenology: Main anthesis from October to February. Hummingbirds are supposed to be the main pollinators.
