Distribution: BRAZIL; Rio de Janeiro,

Habitat: over 1,000 m. Elev.

Etymology: The Greek word leukos means "white" or "whitish", while phaios, phaeus signifies " dark " . The protologue contains no concrete information on the meaning of this epithet. It refers to "leaves (...) entirely tinged with dark purple toward base, whitish on the back (...)", or "sepals (...) brown" in contrast to "corolla-segments (...) white". Perhaps the name refers to the contrast of dark and white, or whitish, structures of N. leucophoea.

Phenology: Flowering occurs between the months of November and April.
