Etymology: T he specific epithet honors Louis Lubbers, Belgian horticulturist and Chief Curator of the Brussels Botanic Garden from 1870-1903, as well as longtime Secretary of the Sociedade de Flóre (Stafleu and Cowan 1976-1988).

Phenology: Flowers from January through March. Fruits in April and May.
