Type: Maguire 29151 (holotype, US; isotype, NY), terrestrial, frequent in mixed forest near base of north slope, Cerro Duida, 3 miles south of Culebra, Amazonas, Venezuela, 24 Apr 1949.

Distribution: VENEZUELA; Amazonas (base of north slope of Cerro Duida).

Habitat: Forested slopes, exact elevation unknown but probably, ca. 200 ; m. Elev.

Etymology: octopus (sea creature with eight [octo] tentacles), -oides (looking like), probably because of the octopus like habit of the plant
