Vriesea luziae R.L.Moura & A.F.Costa |
Distribution: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro
Habitat: terrestrial or rupicolous, heliophytic, 980 m. Elev.
Etymology: The name is a tribute to the National Museum and one of the most important pieces in its collection: the skull of a hominid called Luzia, found among the rubble after the great fire of 2018. As a symbol of ‘new beginnings’, the tribute extends to the survivors of the heavy rains and landslides that occurred in the ‘green coast’ region of Rio de Janeiro and Itajaí/SC (in 2010 and 2011 respectively)
