Etymology: The name of this species honors the Lenca ethnic group, an indigenous group originating from western Honduras, whose population still preserves its culture and native customs in the areas where populations of this new Tillandsia have been found

Phenology: Tillandsia lenca flowers from mid-February to June. Under cultivation conditions, the flowering time starts earlier and it has been seen that cultivated plants are much more robust and with a greater number of spikes than those in the field.
