Etymology: The name “chacomasensis” refers to the localities of the species in the extensive area arround the village of Chacomas near the Río Chacomas in the Prov. of Santiago de Chuco in the southern part of the Dpto. of La Libertad.

Phenology: Tillandsia chacomasensis was found blooming at its native habitat in early March. The flowering period of this species should therefore extend over a longer period in late summer from February to April.
