Etymology: We take great pride in naming this species after Ramón Eduardo López Gutiérrez, from Cabudare, estado Lara in Venezuela, who has collected the species several times and provided us with observations, photographs, and measurements that complemented our own data based on cultivated plants, herbarium specimens, old photographs, and recollections of plants seen long time ago in the field. He is a keen plant observer and grower with a varied collection of Tillandsia, including plants of his now eponymic species.
