Distribution: BRAZIL. Espírito Santo

Habitat: grows forming dense heliophilous populations on granite rock in the Atlantic forest domain, ca 1800 m. Elev.

Etymology: The specific epithet chosen is a reference to the Greek mythological hybrid monster Chimaera, whose reference here is due to the mix of the foliage bracts and rosette shape, resembling Alcantarea delicata while the flowering branches and flowers somehow resemble to Alcantarea patriae, from Espírito Santo, and A. nahoumii, from Bahia.

Phenology: Flowering from December to February. Fruit collected in May.
