Etymology: The new species is named after the wife of Franz Georg Gruber, Gloria Alvarez de Gruber (*1949) from La Palma, Prov. Cundinamarca, Colombia
Phenology: Tillandsia gloriae flowers in the natural habitat and in cultivation in Colombia in the month May to July (Figs. 3–4), and in cultivation in Central Europe from late January to April
