Etymology: Named after Joanne Marie Kick-Raack (1952-). Joanne received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, a master’s degree in Nematology from Cornell University, and a teaching degree from The Ohio State University. For more than 20 years Joanne ran the State of Ohio Pesticide Applicator Training Schools that trained and certified all personnel in the industry who handle pesticides and herbicides. She was named Ohio Agriculture Woman of the Year in 2013. Joanne is on the Women’s Board for the Franklin Park Conservatory and for the Columbus Museum of Art and donates a good deal of her time to helping other organizations. She also assists Jerry Raack in raising a sizeable collection of bromeliads at their home in Pataskala, Ohio.
