Type: probably northern Peru, without exact locality. Moore, L. s.n. (holo U!; iso WU!).

Distribution: Northern Peru, probably from the Alto Mayo region, up to southern Ecuador, probably Prov. Zamora-Chinchipe.

Etymology: The epithet ‘robusta’ is a reflection of its robust flowers, which are the largest in the genus until now.
