Etymology: The new taxon is dedicated to the “El Mandimbo” community of San Miguel del Puerto, Oaxaca and to Joel Fuentes (“Técnico Comunitario”) who actively participated in a series of botanical expeditions that aimed at documenting the bromeliad diversity of the region

Phenology: Flowering in the field from December to April. Immature fruits were observed in July, while dehiscing fruits were recorded from November to April.
