Distribution: ECUADOR: Zamora Chinchipe

Habitat: terrestrially on top of the summit of the Cerro Machinaza in the Cordillera del Cóndor covering big areas together with small shrubs, 2420-2440 m. Elev.

Etymology: Named in honor of its discoverer, the North American botanist David Neill (1953-), a professor of botany and conservation biology at the Universidad Estatal Amazónica, Puyo, province of Pastaza, Ecuador
