Habitat: Epiphyte in Andean dry areas, in small groups on the thin branches of low shrubs as well as on the long-spined areoles of columnar cacti, 2000-3700 m. Elev.
Etymology: The name ”potosina“ is derived from the Bolivian Dpto. of Potosí, where, among other regions, some populations are known to exist
Phenology: The flowering period of both Tillandsia potosina and Tillandsia hirta appears to coincide with the onset of the dry season in late autumn, as only plants with seed capsules in all stages of development were observed during other seasons (between February and August)
