Distribution: Mexico: Nuevo Léon, San Luis Potosí
Habitat: associated with soils rich in gypsum, in arid areas, 1000–2100 m. Elev.
Etymology: Tillandsia karwinskyana was named in honor of the German botanist Wilhelm Friedrich von Karwinsky von Karwin (1780–1855), collector of the type specimen.
Phenology: Flowering occurs in April and from June to August, with a single record in February. Fruiting occurs in November.
